MCII Workshop on Disaster Risk Finance for V20 members: premium support, open risk modeling access and tracking progress

Tuesday, May 18 2021, 6:30 – 8:30 pm Majuro time /  6:30 – 8:30 am GMT / 2:30 – 4:30pm Manila time. 

The workshop on disaster risk finance is conducted for key policy makers in V20 countries, including but not limited to members of the G20-V20 InsuResilience High-Level Consultative Group (HLCG). The objective of the workshop is to provide an overview and discuss approaches to enhance the affordability and sustainability of disaster risk finance solutions, specifically insurance, through targeted financial support; the role of open access to data and risk modeling in addressing macro-economic risks through improving the planning of resilience investments and design of disaster risk finance; and the target indicators of the InsuResilience Global Partnership, aiming to expand financial protection coverage to 500 million people in climate vulnerable developing countries people by 2025. 

The workshop will be facilitated by the Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII) and is aimed at informing and collecting the perspectives of V20 members on the aforementioned issues. Furthermore, it will serve to facilitate the identification of commonalities amongst V20 members and assist the V20 representatives to the InsuResilience HLCG in preparations for the 4th InsuResilience HLCG Meeting on June 1, 2021. Kindly note that this is open to all V20 members across all countries and regions. 

The workshop will span 3 sessions: 

Session 1: Premium and capital support to enhance the affordability of public and market-based climate risk insurance

Session 2: The role of risk modeling and the need for open access

Session 3:  The key target indicators (M&E) framework of the InsuResilience Global Partnership
