The Road to Sharm El-Sheikh COP27

Workshop 4: Climate-Smart Connectivity Energy Infrastructure

Part One: 18–19 October 2022; 18:00–20:30 Beijing time
Part Two: Closed session for project developers and financiers – date to be confirmed

AGENDA

The Egyptian Ministry of Finance, the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Vulnerable Twenty (V20) Group, the World Bank, and the World Resources Institute are cohosting a Workshop Series on Climate Smart Connectivity Infrastructure – the Road to Sharm El-Sheikh to share practical lessons of global experience and policy options for climate-smart connectivity infrastructure projects. The workshop series is also designed to provide capacity building and support the development of a pipeline of climate-smart connectivity infrastructure projects.

The workshop series will conclude with an official event during the Finance Day of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) where a group of climate-smart connectivity infrastructure investment projects from developing countries will be showcased. In this event, key lessons learned, practical experiences and effective policies for the mobilization of finance to implement climate-smart connectivity infrastructure projects will also be presented.

The fourth workshop of the series will be on Climate-Smart Connectivity Energy Infrastructure. This workshop is organized in two parts. The first part is scheduled on 18–19 October 2022, 18:00–20:30 pm Beijing time. This first part will be a focused technical discussion on the best global experience, innovations, and standards on climate-smart connectivity energy infrastructure. The second part will be a closed session with a small group of project developers and possible financiers designed as an exchange platform with a panel of experts to serve as a deep-dive review of a selected set of projects.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The Workshop Series is targeted at professionals working on development finance, especially for infrastructure projects. Specifically, these include:

• Developing country governments, with a particular focus on technical staff of energy agencies as well as ministries of finance and planning, climate change agencies, PPP units and government-affiliated think tanks;

• Emerging market financiers and other private sector actors including infrastructure contractors; and

• Project managers, clients, and partners of International Financial Institutions and bilateral agencies working in the connectivity infrastructure space and/or climate change.
