Financial Protection of Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises against Climate Risks – Innovative Solutions for Climate Vulnerable Economies

CVF Pavilion (P106, area C), Blue Zone, Sharm El-Sheikh International Convention Center

Wednesday 9 November 2022, 1:00-2:30 pm (EET)

Overview

Micro, Small, and Medium Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) are the cornerstone of supply-chains and most households’ livelihoods but severely under-insured. New climate loss events threaten increasing numbers of MSMEs and unprotected risk absorbs their ability to adapt – a vicious cycle. Climate vulnerable countries therefore call for accelerated implementation and scale-up of risk transfer solutions.

Event objectives

This event will discuss challenges and innovative and practical financial protection solutions for MSMEs in climate vulnerable economies. It will explore the following key-questions:

  • What are financial protection needs for MSMEs in vulnerable countries?
  • Which are key initiatives and solutions to increase financial protection of MSMEs in climate vulnerable countries? How can vulnerable countries access them?
  • What are the key factors for successful implementation of pragmatic and innovative solutions?
  • What are the expectations for COP 27 and beyond to deliver on financial protection for the MSME sector in vulnerable countries?

Event format

Open roundtable discussion facilitated by Sara Jane Ahmed. Speakers will have the word first. After that, participants from the audience can join for an open exchange.
