Chair Opening delivered by H.E. Mohammed Amin Adam, Hon. Minister for Finance of Ghana and V20 Chair
V20 MINISTERIAL DIALOGUE XII
16 April 2024
Washington D.C., USA
H.E. Mohammed Amin Adam, Hon. Minister for Finance of Ghana and V20 Chair
Finance Ministers and High-Level Representatives of the V20, G7, and G20 countries, Heads of International Financial Institutions, MDBs, and Partners, Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen, and those joining us online, it is a profound honor to welcome you all to this momentous gathering of the V20 Ministerial Dialogue. This is my first time addressing this forum as Chair, after I took over from my predecessor, the Honorable Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s former Minister for Finance, now Presidential Advisor on Finance to the President of Ghana.
As we convene in the spirit of collaboration and shared resolve, we are reminded of the critical juncture at which we stand today, an era defined by unprecedented climate challenges, yet buoyed by unparalleled opportunities for innovation, resilience, and collective action.
I’m acutely aware of the responsibility that rests on our shoulders. The Vulnerable Twenty Group, representing economies disproportionately impacted by climate change, stands at the forefront of advocating, not just to survive, but to thrive in the face of these adversities.
Our dialogue today, rooted in the insights and aspirations outlined in our Concept Note aims to catalyze action and marshal the resources necessary to secure our future.
Our agenda spans critical areas of focus, including climate finance, access to clean, sustainable energy, and the imperative of integrating climate resilience into the fabric of our economic planning, and policymaking.
The urgency of our mission cannot be overstated. The disparities in climate finance, the gaps in technology transfer, and the hurdles in accessing sustainable energy challenges that require immediate and concerted effort from all stakeholders.
The V20’s journey, marked by advocacy, solidarity and strategic action, has brought us to a point where our collective voice is not just heard, but sought after.
Our experiences, our challenges, and our innovative solutions provide a blueprint for global climate action that is inclusive, equitable and effective, and more importantly, just.
As we engage in today’s dialogue, let us be guided by the principle that our vulnerability is matched only by our strength in unity. Let us forge partnerships that transcend traditional boundaries, and vision policies that are bold and practical, and commit to action that is impactful and immediate.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you for your presence, for your commitment, and for your unwavering support for the V20 agenda. Together we stand on the cusp of a new era, an era where resilience, sustainability and equity and climate prosperity define our path forward. I thank you very much for your commitment and for your presence today.
