Statement by HE Mohamed Nasheed, Secretary-General of the Climate Vulnerable Forum, Regarding the re-election of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

10 January 2024

I am delighted to congratulate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her election victory. The Prime Ministers re-election is a testament to her remarkable leadership, in particular on the pressing issue of climate change.

Her unwavering commitment to addressing environmental challenges and amplifying the voices of climate vulnerable nations is truly commendable. Under her guidance, Bangladesh has played a pivotal role in advocating for global climate action, as evidenced by Bangladeshs successful recent presidency of the Climate Vulnerable Forum.

Prime Minister Hasina’s dedication to enhancing resilience and ensuring the inclusion of vulnerable countries in climate discussions reflects her profound commitment to a sustainable and equitable future for all.

I shall depart the Maldives for Dhaka shortly, where I look forward to attending the Prime Ministers inauguration celebrations.
